Create an Account

When Bazzite asks you to create a user account, this will be the account used to sign in to the computer each day. Take a moment to fill in the details carefully so the computer is set up the way you want.

1Enter your name and username

In the account setup screen, enter the Name you want shown on the computer, then choose a User Name. The user name is used by the system in the background, so it is best to keep it simple and easy to remember.

A short user name using lowercase letters is usually best. For example, if the name is Mary Jones, a user name like mary or maryjones works well.

2Choose the account type

Most people will want an Administrator account so they can install software and change settings when needed. If the computer is for children, it is usually safer to choose a Standard account. This helps stop them from making harmful changes to the PC.

3Pick and confirm your password

Enter a password you can remember, then type it again in the confirmation box if asked. This password will be needed when you sign in and when making important changes to the computer.

Important: The C4L admin password is one we created and it can be used to reset your password if you forget it. This password should not be used as your normal login password. It is different for every Bazzite machine we provide and is available on request.

Helpful tip: After the account is created, use your own password for everyday sign-in. If you ever forget it, contact us to request the C4L admin password for that specific machine.

Installing Software

Bazzite makes installing software easier by using a store-style app manager. In most cases, you do not need to download programs from random websites. Instead, you can search for the app you want, install it, and open it from your applications menu.

1Open Bazaar and search for the app you want

Start by opening Bazaar from the applications menu or desktop if it is already visible there. Once Bazaar opens, use the search bar to type the name of the app you want, such as Firefox, LibreOffice, or VLC.

If several results appear, read the app names and descriptions carefully so you choose the correct one. This is especially important when there are similar-looking apps with different publishers.

2Check the app details before installing

Open the app page and look at the description. Make sure it is the program you want and not a different tool with a similar name. On this page you can often see screenshots, a short summary, and the install button.

Taking a moment to check this page helps avoid installing the wrong app. For example, if you want a web browser, confirm the app page clearly says Firefox or the browser you actually want to use.

Authentication may be required: If Bazzite asks for permission to install software, enter the password you used to log in. If you are using a non-administrator account, you will need to supply both the administrator user name and password.

Helpful tip: In most cases it is safer to install software from Bazaar than from websites because the apps are presented in one place and are easier for beginners to manage.

3Install the app and wait for it to finish

Click Install and give Bazzite time to complete the process. Some apps install quickly, while larger programs may take a little longer depending on your internet connection.

Once the install is complete, the button usually changes to Open or shows that the app is already installed. After that, you can launch the app straight away or find it later in the applications menu.

Changing Time Zone

The time zone controls the clock shown on the computer. If it is set incorrectly, the time and date may be wrong, which can affect reminders, web browsing, emails, and meeting times. Changing it only takes a few steps once you are in the settings area.

1Open System Settings

Open the main settings area from the applications menu or system panel. Once the settings window is open, look for the section called Date & Time. If there are many settings categories listed, use the settings search box and type time to find it faster.

2Choose the correct time zone

On the Date & Time page, look for the current time zone. If it is wrong, select the option to change it. You may see a list of cities, regions, or a map.

Choose the city or region closest to where the computer will normally be used. For example, if the device is being used in Brisbane, choose the matching Australian time zone instead of another city that only looks similar.

Helpful tip: If the computer is connected to the internet, automatic date and time can help keep the clock accurate. The important part is still making sure the correct time zone is selected first.

3Confirm the clock is correct

After choosing the correct time zone, apply the change if Bazzite asks you to confirm it. Then check the clock in the corner of the desktop and make sure both the time and date now look correct.

If the clock still looks wrong, go back into the same settings page and check whether the selected location is correct. Once the right time zone is saved, Bazzite should continue using that setting automatically.
