Resetting a Forgotten Password in Windows 11
Your Windows 11 computer may have two accounts: C4LUser for normal day-to-day use and C4LAdmin for administrator access. If you forget the password for the normal account, you can use the C4LAdmin password to reset the C4LUser password.
1Sign in with the C4LAdmin account
If you cannot access the normal C4LUser account because you have forgotten the password, sign out if needed and log in using the C4LAdmin account details.
Once you are signed in, stay on the Windows desktop and follow the steps below.
2Open Computer Management
Click the Start button or press the Windows key, then type Computer Management into the search box. When Computer Management appears in the results, click it to open.
- Open the Start menu
- Type Computer Management
- Click the matching result
- Wait for the management window to open
3Go to Local Users and Groups
In the Computer Management window, look at the menu on the left-hand side. Open Local Users and Groups, then click Users.
You should now see a list of local accounts on the computer, including C4LUser and C4LAdmin.
4Set a new password for the user account
Find the account that needs to be reset, usually C4LUser. Right-click that account and choose Set Password….
Windows will show a warning message. Click Proceed. Then type the new password twice and click OK.
- Find the user account
- Right-click the account
- Select Set Password…
- Click Proceed
- Enter the new password twice
- Click OK
5Sign out and test the new password
After setting the new password, sign out of the C4LAdmin account. Then sign back in using the C4LUser account and the new password you just created.
If the new password works, the reset is complete. If it does not work, repeat the steps carefully and make sure you typed the password the same way both times.
