GENERAL FAQS

Q: What are your opening hours?

A: We are open Thursday to Saturday 9am – 12pm


DONATION FAQs

Q: What types of devices do you accept?

A: We gratefully accept donations of laptops, desktop computers, monitors, and related peripherals. We can accept devices in working or non-working condition. The latter can be used for parts.

Q Do you offer a collection service?

A: Yes. We offer a collection service for donations of 10 or more devices depending on your location. For smaller quantities we can schedule for you to drop-off at our Banyo workshop or you can use one of our donation bins.

Q: Where are your donation bins located?

A: Our donation bins are in the following locations:

    • Leanne Linard’s office, Shop 404, 29 Station St, Nundah
    • Hamilton Ward office, 42 Racecourse Rd, Hamilton
    • Marchant Ward office, Level 1, 375 Hamilton Rd, Chermside
    • Earnshaw State College Reception, Tufnell Rd, Banyo

Q: What happens to the data on donated devices?

A: Data security is our top priority. We employ a rigorous 3-pass data overwrite sanitisation method and can provide a Wiping report that verifies the process has taken place. Detailed per-device wiping reports are available upon request.

Q: Our IT department has very specific data security requirements and some questions. Are we able to have a more in-depth discussion?

A: Absolutely! We encourage thorough due diligence. Please contact our IT Donation Coordinator to schedule a meeting between your IT department and our technical team. We are proud of our 3-pass overwrite data sanitisation method, and will gladly discuss this and the reports produced as well as address any specific security protocols or concerns your IT department may have.

Q: What do you do with anything you can’t use?

A: Anything that is destroyed or any device that cannot be used is usually given to Kingfisher Recycling which supports the Aspley Special School.


CUSTOMER FAQs

Q: How will I know that my device is suitable to my needs?

A: The more information you give us about your needs, the more we can assist you. You are encouraged, to try your device before you leave our store to ensure that it is in working order as we do not accept "Change of Minds".

Q: Do you devices have a warranty?

A; Yes, Our devices have a 3 month warranty. Please refer to our Warranty policy below.

Warranty and Returns policy

Q: Why don’t you show exactly what is being purchased?

A: The devices we sell are refurbished donated devices. This means that brands and models of devices continuously vary. This is why we focus on the device’s specifications. Our student laptops generally meet your school's requirement, regardless of branding. However, we recommend you send through the school's technical specs to ensure that we meet them.

Q: How much are adult and student laptops for non-eligible customers?

A: If you are ineligible for the special low prices, please browse our Tech Store

Q: How do I purchase discounted device for more than one student?

A: Simply go to our student laptop section and fill in the form for each student attaching each students ID. Please let us know that you are ordering multiple devices in the Special Instructions. Our team will then invoice you one invoice for all devices.

Q: What is the complete list of allowed cards for Adult Laptops?

A: As well as the cards already described, we will accept any of the Seniors Cards or the Carer Business Discount Card issued by the Queensland Government

Q: I am unable to go to your premises to collect my purchase. Can you deliver or post it to me?

A: Yes we can deliver LAPTOPS but we cannot deliver DESKTOPS. 1 laptop costs $30 extra to deliver and they are posted each Thursday

Q: I am studying but I am not a school student, can I still get a device?

A: Yes, we can provide devices to TAFE students, Uni Students and Busy Schools Students with the correct ID. Other institutions are not eligible but if you have a Health Care or similar card, you are eligible for an Adult device


CHARITY CONNECT FAQs

Q: I want to obtain a free device via Charity Connect but I am not a registered charity. Can I still apply?

A: No. Many registered charities partner with C4L to support their clients. C4L has established Charity Connect exclusively for these organisations. It is our way of thanking and supporting them for the amazing work they do with people who are in serious hardship.


DIGGERS GO DIGITAL FAQs

Q: I am not a veteran can I get a free computer?

A: No, this initiative is our way of saying "Thanks" to our veterans and is kindly funded by the Kedron Wavell RSL

Q: I have ordered my desktop can I have it now?

A: No once we have received your order, we will start building your device and we will email you once it is ready


VOLUNTEERS FAQs

Q: I want to volunteer with C4L what do I need to do?

A: To volunteer with us you require a Blue card so we suggest you start that process with Blue Card Services as soon as possible.

  • Then send us an email via the Contact us form detailing why you wish to join us and your relevant experience.
  • We will then contact you to progress your application. We will need your Blue Card account number (or card number if you already have one) and Date of Birth to be able to link you to C4L as a volunteer.
  • New volunteers must attend the workshop on three Saturday mornings for induction and orientation.
  • If this is not possible, let us know to see if we can make other arrangements.
  • After your induction is complete you will be able to choose to what days to attend. If your role is non-technical and you may be able to work from home, you will be able choose the days and number of hours you are available to volunteer.

Q: Do you offer other Volunteer Roles other than Tech refurbishing?

A:Yes, like every organisation, we need 'behind-the-scenes' people.

  • So, if you aren't a Tech wiz, but you would like to help in other ways, let us know what you have to offer.
  • We are always looking for people to rustle up donations of computers, maintain our social media presence or to help with administrative tasks.
  • Simply email requests@computers4learning.org.au and tell us why you want to volunteer with C4L and what you have to offer, attach your resume and you'll be on your way!
  • You will be required to get a Blue Card and do the induction as described above.
